Background Information
It has been recognised that many aged care homes are finding it increasingly difficult to keep the services of GPs. There is evidence that:
- The proportion of GPs providing services to aged care homes is shrinking.
- At the same time, the needs of residents, especially in high care, are becoming increasingly complex.
The Panels initiative, aims to identify GPs who are committed to providing services to residents, and to make it more attractive for them to do so and resulting in:
- Improved access to medical care for residents of approved aged care homes including high care, low care and combined facilities.
- Increased GP involvement in aged care facilities quality improvement programs.
- Development of effective partnerships between aged care homes stakeholders (residents / staff / families) and GPs.
The Monash Aged Care Program supports, and is supported by, approved aged care homes within the Division Boundaries
